Vessel sea trials

Sea trials represent the culmination of the newbuilding programme - the definitive test of whether the vessel meets contractual specifications. Here is what owners should expect and how independent supervision adds value.

Pre-Trial Preparation

Successful sea trials begin weeks before the vessel leaves the dock. Our teams verify completion of all systems, review test procedures with the yard, and ensure instrumentation is calibrated and ready.

Key pre-trial checks include:

  • Main engine and auxiliary systems commissioning complete
  • Navigation and communication equipment tested
  • Safety systems and lifesaving appliances operational
  • All class and flag state requirements addressed

During the Trial

Our supervisors attend all trial evolutions, independently recording data alongside yard personnel. This includes speed runs, manoeuvring tests, anchor trials, and machinery performance verification.

Post-Trial Documentation

Following trials, we prepare detailed reports comparing achieved performance against contractual guarantees. Any deficiencies are documented and tracked through to resolution before delivery acceptance.
